Implantology services
Implantology is the surgical specialty that deals with the replacement of missing teeth or caries, accidents or periodontal disease.
A dental implant is a surgical component that is incorporated into the mandible or jaw bone instead of the missing tooth to support a dental prosthesis (eg crown, Megagen implant, Straumann implant) that behaves just like natural teeth , thus allowing proper mastication and a normal or even more pleasant appearance than natural teeth.
The basis for modern dental implants is a process called osteo-integration, whereby the materials from which the implant is made fuse perfectly with the bone, thus allowing the addition and stability of prosthetic work on this support.
Currently, there are many types of implants and accessories, our company collaborating with renowned companies to obtain the richest variety of prosthetic components in Romania.
- Forms: conical, cylindrical, trapezoidal, flat;
- Surfaces: smooth, ribbed;
- Dimensions length: maximum 15mm;
- Dimensions thickness: 1.8 - 5mm;
- Modes of fixation: bone, subperiosteal, transosome.
A dental implantology work consists of:
- dental implant;
- healing bunt;
- prosthetic bunt;
- crown/prosthetic work of various types.
General procedures for a dental implantology work:
- insertion of the implant - is performed either immediately, post-extraction, or after a longer period, depending on the condition of the bone. It is followed by a period of healing and integration of the implant (its integration into the bone mass), which varies between 4 and 6 months;
- insertion of the prosthetic bunt - once the osteo-integration of the implant is determined, the doctor places a prosthetic bunt, which serves as the outer support of the gum for supporting prosthetic work. Under ideal conditions, the period of healing of the gum is about a week;
- adding crown/prosthetic work.
Candidates
There is no so-called ideal candidate for the implant. Anyone who has lost one or more teeth for various reasons can benefit from this treatment as long as there are no local conditions or general health problems that absolutely contraindicate implantology intervention.
As for age, as with other dental treatments, implants can be inserted into people at any age at the time of growth. Limits are imposed on children or adolescents who have not completed the skeletal growth process and very old people (> 90 years) who are very unhealthy. If there are general pathologies that are stable and under treatment there are no contraindications. There are of course situations when the physician, after detailed examination and expert analysis, decides in some cases that the operation is not indicated and alternative treatment is used.
Guarantee
Contrary to belief, a dental implant lasts as long as a natural tooth lasts. Life span varies depending on:
- general health status;
- the degree of care of the implant.
In the past 7 years implant therapy has made technological advances and extraordinary advances, which is why the success rate has reached 97-98% over a period of 10-15 years. Specialty literature confirms that if an implant has a life span of 10 years after the final prosthetic work is completed, it is an absolute success. However, there are also very rare situations when the implant does not integrate into the bone. There is no problem as long as the protocol is met: the implant must be removed and the healing expected, after which another type of implant may be attempted, or alternatively conventional, possibly conventional, treatment.
